Foundations Training Series

Choose a single workshop, two to five workshops, or complete the entire six part series.

  • Part one of this six-part training series will focus on establishing a foundational understanding of personal bias and the role of bias in oppression and exclusion. This workshop will help participants identify how personal bias affects their perceptions and treatment of others and how to interrupt bias to create positive change.

  • Participants will acquire knowledge of the foundational concepts and appropriate terminology related to diversity, equity, inclusion, human rights, anti-racism and oppression. This workshop will help build understanding of each concept individually, their relationship to one another and most importantly how they apply to our workplace environments.

  • We all have a role to play in dismantling systems of oppression and creating more inclusive and equitable environments. This workshop will allow participants to deepen their understanding of how our identities influence our experiences and perspectives. This includes understanding power, white privilege and other forms of privilege.

  • Participants will explore the interpersonal impact of bias and discrimination through verbal and non-verbal microaggressions, oppressive language and exclusionary behavior. Using relevant workplace scenarios participants will analyze and identify barriers to inclusion and possible solutions.

  • Building on the knowledge of the individual and interpersonal impact of discrimination this workshop will broaden our understanding to include how oppression operates at a systemic level and the historical and enduring presence of racism and anti-Black racism.

  • While knowledge and awareness of oppression is important, it does not always produce change. This last workshop will focus on tools and skills for active and effective allyship and meaningful social change. Participants will not only explore what effective allyship means and how to take action but also how to make and respond to inevitable mistakes.

Advanced Training Series

Before you dive into our Advanced Trainings, we recommended completing our Foundations prerequisites, “Interrupting Bias: An Anti-Bias Approach to the Workplace” and “Foundations of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Oppression “.

  • Addressing inappropriate, discriminatory, or harmful behavior and remarks is challenging and uncomfortable work, but with the right approach, tools, and skills this important work can be transformative to an organizational or community culture. This workshop will provide participants with useful new insights on creating safe and inclusive spaces for these discussions as well as techniques for disarming defensiveness to make space for learning. In addition to strengthening skills, this workshop will also help participants manage the emotional labour, self-care, and personal limits required for this kind of work.

  • In today’s diverse world, workplaces must create the conditions for individuals to be their authentic selves, communicate openly, and to reach their full potential. In this workshop, participants will explore the concepts of psychological and other forms of safety, delve into the power of the language, and learn practical strategies for fostering and maintaining safe environments.

  • In every industry, from retail to healthcare to manufacturing, service delivery plays a crucial role in shaping customer experiences. This workshop delves into the principles of equity and inclusion and how they can be applied to service delivery across diverse industries.

  • Dealing with stress and burnout involves more than managing external stressors; it requires understanding their multifaceted impact on individuals, workplaces, and communities. In this workshop, participants will learn practical strategies for navigating stress, burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma through fostering resilience and cultivating renewal in both personal and professional spheres.

  • The workshop will deepen understanding of how anti-Black racism is entrenched in the Canadian context individually, and interpersonally as well as in our social, economic, health care, criminal justice, governance, housing, and education systems. This includes understanding power dynamics and white privilege historically and in the present context.

  • Participants will learn about sexual and gender diversity and gain tools for promoting an environment of respect and inclusion for LGBTQ2S+ people while learning to effectively interrupt stereotypes and biases that feed homophobic and transphobic attitudes and behaviours.

  • This workshop will help participants learn how to identify hidden barriers to inclusion caused by ableism and mental health-based bias and discrimination. In addition, this session will provide tools for building compassion and finding skillful ways to offer help or support.

  • This workshop provides an Indigenous perspective on common Canadian narratives including an introduction to the Indigenous world view, the origins of settler colonialism, the Indian Act as an assimilation policy, residential schools and intergenerational trauma, and an application of calls to action in the workplace.

Leadership Training Series

Choose one or more workshops in our four part Leadership Series.

  • Inclusive workplaces are built and maintained by leaders who understand and champion principles and practices of DEI and anti-oppression. This workshop will introduce tools and skills for managing inclusive work environments and provide a high level overview of how to build DEI and anti-oppression into a long term organizational strategy.

  • Equitable and inclusive hiring practices succeed when DEI and anti-oppression principles inform policies, procedures, and internal organizational culture. This workshop will explore strategies for how to align recruitment, hiring, and retention practices with the diversity, inclusion and anti-bias goals of your organization.

  • The way we communicate is shaped by our cultural and social identities, both of which, if left unexamined, can create unintentional barriers. This workshop will provide practical tools for building trust and rapport with clients, improving working relationships with employees and colleagues, and enhancing supervision and management style.

  • In today's rapidly evolving social landscape, understanding and implementing effective changemaking frameworks is crucial for fostering inclusive and equitable environments. This workshop will explore the nuances of equity, anti-racism, anti-oppression, decolonial, and human rights frameworks, examining their unique approaches to creating systemic change.
